What is construction document AI?

Construction document AI is software that reads full project document sets — drawings, schedules, specifications, addenda — and connects what different documents say about the same scope, the way a senior estimator reads a set.
It differs from single-document extraction the way an audit differs from a photocopy: the value is not repeating what one page says but noticing what the pages say together, and what they never say at all.
Why whole-set reading matters
A schedule can be internally perfect while the set contains the conflict: a hardware group whose spec language excludes the room the schedule assigns it to, a rated opening whose set never latches, a reference to a sheet that was never issued. These only exist between documents, which is why single-file tools miss them by construction.
The disciplines that make it trustworthy
- Whole-document context: schedules and their governing language read together, never fragmented
- Source anchors: every extracted value names its page and text
- Refusal to invent: unstated values stay visibly unknown
- Independent verification of the assignments that drive the money
- Deterministic math: totals recomputed in code, not trusted from a model
